Today we’d like to introduce you to Mei-Lon Jimenez.
Hi Mei-Lon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
We are always looking for ways to help our customers save time and money so they can take on the day confidently! Before Chica Beauty, we noticed something missing in the beauty community. We didn’t see any beauty company representing our culture, lifestyle, and values. We know and understand what a student, girl boss, or mom is like. This inspired us to create beauty products that simplify one’s beauty routine, not make it any more difficult. Every product takes inspiration from its customers’ hustle and success. Chica Beauty’s goal is to simplify their customers’ beauty routines by creating sets to work around their life so that they can focus on what matters most. Each makeup set tells a unique story and references the founders’ Latina culture. Chica Beauty’s Love/Amor set included bold red lipstick inspired by their grandmother, whose signature look was her bright red lips. Since launching in November 2019, my sister and I have grown this business on our own, maintaining zero debt, increasing sales every year, and cultivating our loyal customers. We are proud of how far we’ve taken the business in just three years, and we are ready for the next level and to scale!
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
There is no such thing as a smooth road in business, as there will always be highs and lows! Being able to navigate what is happening in the world and shifting our business model in response to that has been a difficult challenge. Still, we have found that being passionate about your business can help you overcome these challenges. This mindset has allowed us to be resilient through everything life throws us because life can be a rollercoaster ride!
We’ve been impressed with Chica Beauty, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart?
We are, Mei-Lon and Toni Lee Jimenez, 3rd generation Latina sisters passionate about empowering women through beauty. We truly and wholeheartedly want to make a difference in our community. We saw a gap in the Latina market & because no one was catering to “women on the go,” we did something about it! #GETITCHICA
Chica Beauty is a lifestyle brand whose mission is to positively reflect Latinas everywhere, in all communities positively, and for all ages. We promote ‘true’ beauty by embracing beauty in all body sizes, facial features, skin colors, and lifestyles.
Latinas have a strong cultural foundation for beauty. We use makeup as a way to express ourselves every day. Like family heirlooms, our beauty tips are passed down from generation to generation. These traditions influence our products and boast colors and formulas that complement our skin tone.
Chica Beauty prides itself on being more than a beauty brand. We want not only to support our women on the go but also our local communities and environment. Chica Beauty is investing time to help beautify our planet and local communities and invest in our youth. We have done this by cleaning up our neighborhoods, giving back through donations and partnerships with nonprofits, and dedicating our time to speaking with young girls about all things girl boss!
With its sustainable packaging and recycling program, Chica Beauty is working towards green goals. The recycling program we are establishing would allow customers to donate their used makeup products so Chica Beauty can reuse the materials instead of wasting them. We also use high-quality ingredients, so our customers never have to worry about any damaging chemicals they are putting on their faces. Our initiatives have helped us grow our community of Chica Beauty, and we believe that is something the beauty industry needs more of these days.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
If the pandemic taught our business anything, it was how to be resilient. Our five-year business plan shifted, and we had to learn how to adapt to necessary changes. The transition of having to meet online rather than face to face has remained a key part of Chica Beauty. Meeting virtually has allowed us to communicate with so many different and influential people to make Chica Beauty the best beauty brand it can be! In 2023, we are still trying to check off the goals we had set out to do in our original business plan years ago.
